36 hours before the landing
This American film, directed by George Seaton and officially released in 1965, takes us back into the history of the Second World War and more particularly into the episode of the landing in 1944 where an officer of the American army is kidnapped by the Germans in Lisbon. You will, therefore, find the Portuguese capital in wartime through this black and white film.
Dear August
This Franco-Portuguese masterpiece was released in 2008 in Portugal and in 2009 in France under the direction of Miguel Gomez, its director. It shows the magnificent mountainous landscapes of Portugal through a sentimental scenario where family stories are intertwined. This feature film was notably awarded the Globo Ouro for Best Portuguese Film.
The State of Things
This German drama was shot in 1982 and directed by Wim Wenders, part of whose film is set on a deserted coast of Portugal. This film is typically what we call a film within a film as it tells the story of a film crew that is interrupted due to lack of money to finish the project.
Beating sun
Always in the dramatic vein, Soleil battant is a film that premiered in 2017 under the impetus of Clara and Laura Laperrousaz. The screenplay is about a couple and their twins who return to Portugal to spend their holidays in the family home, which will also be the place where a heavy secret is discovered.
Verde Vinho
This Brazilian feature film was directed by Manuel Gama, a Portuguese director and released in 1981 as a tribute to a famous song by Paulo Alexandre. We can see Lisbon, Porto, Madeira and Coimbra through this film, which retraces the life of a former Portuguese immigrant who has been living in Brazil for thirty years. We discover his childhood, his loves, his worries, but also the reasons for his forced departure to Brazil.
